Old Comber 7 Year Old Single Pot Still marks the historic return of one of Ireland’s most iconic whiskeys. This is the first Single Pot Still release since the legendary Old Comber Distillery fell silent in 1953. Crafted at The Echlinville Distillery using barley grown, harvested, and malted on their own County Down farm, it carries forward the brand’s proud heritage with authenticity and precision. Matured in select casks and bottled at 70cl, this release celebrates the revival of a whiskey once considered one of Ireland’s greats — a true taste of history brought back to life.

Founded in 1825, Old Comber was once one of Ireland’s great whiskey houses, produced at Comber Distilleries in County Down, just ten miles from its new home at The Echlinville Distillery. When Comber Distilleries fell silent in 1953, Old Comber became one of Ireland’s ‘lost’ whiskeys, remembered for its quality, bold flavour, and its reputation as the home of double-distilled pot still whiskey.

After a 70–year absence, Echlinville revived Old Comber in 2021, reaffirming its commitment to restoring County Down’s historic whiskey legacy. Staying faithful to the spirit’s roots, Echlinville continues the brand’s tradition of Port and Sherry cask finishes while honouring its agricultural heritage. Old Comber’s story is deeply tied to local farming; the original distillery sourced barley from County Down farms and Ards Maltings, once one of Ireland’s largest maltings

In 2023, Echlinville acquired Ards Maltings, reuniting this historic link under one distilling family and bringing Old Comber’s lineage full circle.

Aromas (without water) Soft orchard fruits, red apples, overripe pears and red apple skins leads to baked plum pudding, vanilla crème anglaise, and a hint of warming nutmeg.

Flavour Long, lingering, viscous and satisfying. Cream soda from the Echlinville Pot Still transforms into iced raspberry and cherry bakewell tart, before fading gradually to a final gentle hint of warm spiced ginger cake and vanilla cream.

Palate (without water) Big, full-bodied and soft on the palate. Initial notes of red berry and madeira cake trifle laced with sherry and vanilla pods, then it warms up to baked plums in red wine and fresh cinnamon sticks. There is red toffee apple and a majestic underlying base sweetness from both the grain and the port casks that gently infuses everything, but stays restrained and never overpowers. And all this held together by soft wood tannin, toasted almonds and mild winter spices.
