Midleton 1973 Private Collection

Another legendary old Midleton 1973. More collected than tasted unfortunately. Fruity and waxy pot still whiskey with a lot of complexity. I feel lucky that I'm able to taste these beauties.

• Nose

The nose start dusty with cooked apples, plums and ripe peach. Dried apricots. Rhubarb jam and raspberries. Followed by beeswax, shoe polish and old books in a library. I also got burlap sacks with just harvested onions. Associations of paraffin and diesel oil at the background. We're clearly in (pre 1975) old pot still territories again.

• Taste

Full waxy mouthcoating now with tropical fruit of mango, papaya and Galia melon. Zesty notes of gooseberries, orange peel and pineapple. Barley sugar. Later on hints of roasted chestnuts and toasted almonds. Hints of milk chocolate as well. It's complex and multi-layered. Nice!

• Finish

Long and lingering with hint of grape skins and lemon. A little white pepper. Ginger. Liquorice at the end. Well balance pot still whiskey.
